Prom Night - Documentary Photography
The Matric Dance is the South African equivalent of a "Prom" night. Although the diverse cultural groupings within the South African population have slightly different approaches to this celebration, it is generally celebrated by the whole family and no expense is spared in creating a memorable day for the student. I shot these images before the event, the event was covered by a photographer hired by the school, which was perfect for me as I have a fascination of the narratives that play out on peripheries.
